Joseph E. Inglesby, III
Tybee Island, Georgia – Joseph E. "Buddy" Inglesby, III, age 90 died peacefully, surrounded by his family Wednesday, January 19, 2011. He was born February 4, 1920 in Savannah, GA to Captain Joseph E. Inglesby and Lucile Hunter Inglesby. He was retired having spent most of his life in the automobile and insurance business. He was a lifelong Savannahian, and a Savannah High School graduate 1938.
He was a World War II veteran having served with the 118th. Field Artillery Chatham Artillery which was assigned to the 30th. Infantry Division, upon being activated in 1940. He was also a paratrooper. He was, upon his death, one of the longest sustaining members of the Chatham Artillery, also being a third generation member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, Cil I. Harrington, Virginia I. Tison, and Emma I. Heidt, and wife, Muriel Dodd Inglesby.
He was a former member of the Savannah Yacht Club, and the Civitan Club of Savannah.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Mimi I. Ferrelle Harvey, Joseph E. Inglesby, IV Jane, Cornelia I. Pittard John, six grandchildren, Chas Ferrelle Latrelle, Dodd Ferrelle Cameron, Screven Inglesby Arrian, Wylly Inglesby, John Pittard Tara; Leigh Baehner Bill, six great grandchildren, Charlie, Wyatt, Dodd, Bliss, John and Lilli, twenty nieces and nephews, and a million friends.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Graveside Funeral Service: 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Bonaventure Cemetery conducted by The Very Reverend William Willoughby, III.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Chatham Artillery.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Oceanside Nursing Home and Odyssey Hospice.
